Our History

Clarence Farm Services Ltd. was founded by Clarence Kloosterhof who opened his first agricultural supply store in Stewiacke, N.S., in 1969. In 1971 a second retail outlet was opened in Truro. In 1977 the Truro store was moved to a new location with expanded warehouse, retail and milling facilities in Lower Truro.  The number of stores increased to 4 in 1980, when outlets in Amherst and Moncton were acquired.  Clarence Farm Services Ltd. entered large-scale feed production in 1985 with the purchase of the Industrial Avenue, Truro Mill from Ralston Purina Canada Inc.

The retail division expanded to a total of 6 stores in 1989 when retail outlets in Sussex and Fredericton* (*now closed) were added. In 2001, we added a second production facility purchasing our Brunswick Street mill from a competitor who left the Atlantic feed industry. We again expanded our retail presence with the addition of our Hunter River, P.E.I. location in 2002.

Clarence Farm Services Ltd. manufactures Purina Chows under an agreement with Agribrands Purina Canada Inc. Our distribution goal is to have fresh product available locally in all regions. To achieve this we utilize our stores, an independent dealer network and expanded points of sale in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland.

Clarence Farm Services Ltd. prides itself on delivering the highest quality product to our customers and providing excellent technical service. We have a highly trained team of Farm Consultants positioned throughout Atlantic Canada to continue growing our business and to aid in the success of our customers.

This, in combination with our dedicated team keeps us on the leading edge of Atlantic Agribusiness and beyond.
